My absolute favorite Olympic sport, and why there's no cable network devoted exclusively to it, I'll never understand.
But onto the announcement. My editor emailed me yesterday to ask if I wanted The Shade Of The Moon to come out in Fall 2013 or Spring 2014. Fall would require me to finish the rewrites by October, and Spring would give me until January to do same.
I emailed back to say the people who read my blog (i.e. you) are eager to read The Shade Of The Moon and would prefer the Fall date. My editor understood why that was so important to me, and agreed to get to work almost instantly, since I can't do the rewrites until she writes her notes suggesting what needs improvement.
What I didn't tell her was the only chance I have to test my No Complaining Resolution was if I had to do the rewrites almost immediately, since by December, I will undoubtedly have slipped into my whining ways, because I won't have had anything much to complain about between now and then to put my No Complaining Resolution to the test.
Yes, people who read my blog (i.e. you). I used you (i.e. you).
Hmm. This is now an announcement and a confession. Two for the price of zero (thank you, Blogspot*, for this gift of free space).
So The Shade Of The Moon will be published a little over a year from now. Let's see how much complaining I don't do between now and then!
*Blogspot's very own spellcheck doesn't think Blogspot is a word. It offered me as an alternative "Bloodsport." I'll let you come up with the jokes about that while I watch trampoline.
ETA: Scooter isn't nearly as interested in the Olympics as I am!

That is beyond exciting! I'll even cut you slack on the complaining since you are basically doing us all a favor:)
Hello Emily-
Resolutions must be obeyed (until they get broken, at least!).
I definitely think I feel used....nah! Beyond excited to hear about The Shade of the Moon. And I'm surprised you have been able to stick to your resolution, I mot certainly haven't been able to in the past!
Hi Taylor C-
Well, it's possible I haven't stuck to my resolution. Complaining is so natural to me, I don't notice when I do it!
Have you ever thought of pitching the moon series to a network like AMC? I think this would make an awesome tv series, and networks like AMC could see the entertainment value in this story over say NBC or CBS. Just a thought. Love the stories, can't wait for shades of the moon.
Hi Jason-
I'm all in favor of my books being turned into a TV series, but I doubt there's a network that would listen to my pitch.
My agency is supposed to handle things like that, but so far they've had no success.
But I'm a firm believer in never giving up. Maybe someday it will happen (and I'll be glad if it does!).
Maybe someday, you might direct your editor or publisher to the short story site dedicated to the Last Survivors -- if they're inclined to do so, or IF you get a series/miniseries out of this, they could pick which ones they like and publish it as a tv tie-in called "Tales of the Last Survivors". I saw a collection dedicated to TWILIGHT ZONE at Books-A-Million a few days back, so it is possible.
Thank you for the suggestion Anonymous!
I can wait a year, I can wait a year, I can wait a year. I'm thrilled to have a countdown until my next 'fix'!
Thanks Heather-
I'm doing a countdown until the manuscript comes back from my editor and I have to do rewrites.
That will be the official end of vacation. Not that I'm complaining!
omg. can't wait for The Shade of the Moon!!! I remember how dissapointed I was when you said there wasn't going to be anymore, and now there is!!! Woot!!! I must go re-read all the books right now.
Thank you A said...
You might want to hold off on re-reading the books until, say, next August!
Hi
I need help with the thematic statement from. The book "the dead and the gone"
Hi Anonymous-
I wrote The Dead And The Gone and would be hardpressed to come up with its thematic statement.
I never liked it when my English teachers made us say what the theme of a story was.
So feel free to copy this comment and let your teacher know the author doesn't know what the thematic statement of her book is!
