My mother spent the weekend in the hospital. She was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, which was treated with antibiotics.
I took her home Sunday afternoon, but yesterday she was too weak to manage on her own. So she was checked back into the hospital (a room was waiting for her, so we didn't have to go through eight hours in the emergency room again).
Her spirits are fine, she was very apologetic about being a pest, and my guess is she'll make a full recovery a lot sooner than I will!

My thoughts are with you both.

I'm so glad they were able to find out what the problem was, but I'm sorry she's still so weak. I'm really hoping she'll be home and feeling herself again, very soon.
Hi Glen and Elaine Marie Alphin-
I got a phone call a little while ago saying my mother was going to be moved from the hospital to the nursing home attached to her assisted living residence.
That's really where she should have gone Sunday, which would have spared her and me a great deal of Monday drama.
The moral of this story is- never get hospitalized on a Thursday!
I'm off to the hospital to be with her when she gets moved.
Thanks to everyone who commented or emailed. I apologize for not having replied to the comments, but life really has been crazy.
My mom just had a bladder infection and I think it nearly killed her. Her only symptoms were extreme weakness, but she refused to go the doctor. It took a week of begging and her getting stuck in the tub for nearly an hour because her legs were too weak to stand before she went.
Here's to a quick recovery.
i wish the best o luck to your mother. i love your book "LIfe as We Knew It"
Thank you Anonymous.
My mother is doing fine, and she really appreciates all the good wishes people here have bestowed on her.
