I Am Woman. Hear Me Talk (And Talk And Talk)

There's a great new website called Scripts & Scribes.com (admit it, you love it already), and for reasons best known to them, they decided to interview me. They offered me the option of doing the interview on Skype, but the problem with doing an interview on Skype is your house has to be clean, and as you know I'm a tad behind on the housecleaning business. So I said I'd rather do it on the phone, and that is why the podcast lacks a view of my frantically trying to dust and vacuum while chatting merrily about my career. So if you're interested in hearing me chat merrily about my career, scurry over to the Susan Beth Pfeffer page and listen away! PS (and on a different subject) Blogspot has decided it hates Internet Explorer and will only let me post on Google Chrome. For some reason, Google Chrome doesn't seem to understand paragraphing, or editing, or any other other things I was accustomed to on Blogspot. This does not make me a happy person.

Having gotten very frustrated with Internet Explorer two or three years ago, I got Firefox and it works a lot better. Maybe it would work for you.

Hi Bonnie Jacobs-

When I couldn't get to post on IE, I went to Firefox and had pretty much the same problems I had with Google Chrome.

I guess it's a Blogspot problem, but I can tell it's going to drive me crazy unless they get things back to the way they used to be (I do like my paragraphs).

Well, Google has been making a lot of formatting changes with their pages lately, and Blogger is no exception. I imagine that the thing you are looking for--I assume it's the WYSIWYG text editor window that has gone missing?--should reappear at some point, maybe at a different place. It's frustrating, but Google doesn't really have a bad reputation for changing things a whole lot, so hopefully when it comes back it'll stay for a long time.

(You can always put paragraph spacing directly into the HTML too. Just place
everywhere you want a return--so paste it twice in a row if you want to leave a space between paragraphs. I know that we are a little out of your comfort zone right now, but it really is pretty easy.)

I also that second the plug for Firefox above. It might not be more helpful to you now, but it'll always be more helpful than Explorer.

Ha ha! Do you see my comment above? It would make a whole lot more sense if you could read the paragraph brake tag I included after "Just place" in the second paragraph. Obviously it actually worked though, and instead of showing up it actually turned into a hard return. Imagine the paragraph like this:

"(You can always put paragraph spacing directly into the HTML too. Just place the letters "br/" in carrots < like these > instead of quotes, everywhere you want a return--so paste it twice in a row if you want to leave a space between paragraphs. I know that we are a little out of your comfort zone right now, but it really is pretty easy.)"

Hi Mr. Cavin and Mr. Cavin-

WAAAAH!

I am going to assume Blogspot will figure out that people like paragraphs and change things back to how they ought to be.

There were other problems with it today as well. And it cost me much of the morning (I had been hoping to finish the first draft today, but that's not gonna happen).

Thank you for your advice and suggestions. I think I'll hope for a miracle instead!

Yeah, I totally sort of botched making that look easy, huh? Let me know if I can help out again!

Susan Beth Pfeffer said...

Ah Mr. Cavin, I've totally sort of botched things up a lot more.

I'm plowing through the end of the book. I'll worry about paragraphing some other time!

I'm also a Blogspot user, and I HAVE had to add those things Mr. Cavin uses. For me, they look like this, in this order, and I use two of them (I'll try putting each part on a different line, but you would type it in a row on the same line):

<
br
space
/
>

Where the new version of Blogger (Blogspot) shows COMPOSE, you'd have to click on HTML.

Firefox gives me a tab called "Most Visited" and I discovered yesterday that I had....

Blogger Bonnie's Books - Manage Posts

that took me straight back to the old versions that I was used to. Maybe you can find a tab like that along the top of your window. It would be there above where you are reading this, if you have it. (I think.)

I've learned this stuff the hard way, by trying this, that, and the other and picking myself up and trying again. You should have to be teaching yourself new stuff like this while trying to write another book.

Oops! You should NOT have to be teaching yourself new stuff like this while trying to write another book.

Hello and thank you to Bonnie Jacobs-

You know, paragraphing is kind of basic. Blogspot should understand that and not make people go through loops.

I'm holding onto my fantasy that Blogspot will return to its previous sane self, and will ignore it for the next few days, so it can recover on its own!

speaking of changes ... For a minute I thought you'd done a zombie novel. But then I realized that they'd just used the same cover from Life As We Knew It for a zombie book.

Susan-
Hi! I just loved your Last Survivors Trilogy. If I remember correctly, in one of those books(or perhaps two), they sang songs, some of which were by the Beatles. I was musing over this and I thought,"Hmm...I wonder if they ever sang 'Here Comes the Sun'. That would have been quite ironic...". Have you ever thought of that?

Hello again to Fear Deatb By Water and hello to Anonymous-

No zombies in my novels (I've got enough trouble) and I'm pretty sure no "Here Comes The Sun." When I think of Beatles songs, that's not one that automatically comes to mind.

It's a shame though- it would have been a nice ironic touch!
