Look Who's Reading!

The ARCs for This World We Live In have arrived!

There are 180 names in the Bolivian hat. Scooter and I will be picking 30 at random, which gives each of you a one in six chance of getting an ARC.

I'll be sending emails to the names that get selected to ask for your mailing address. My plan is to do that this afternoon, and start making the trips to the post office tomorrow.

My guess is I'll have a few more ARCs to distribute over the next month or so. I'm holding a handful in reserve, and maybe Harcourt will send me some more, if they have any leftovers. So even if you don't hear from me today, you may still end up with an ARC.

Should you get one, there are only two rules. They're not for sale, and they're not to be put into a library system, in lieu of an actual copy of the book. Beyond that, they're yours to do with as you wish.

After you've read the ARC (assuming you do read it and don't just use it for a doorstop), if you want to comment about it, please do so at thirdmoonbook. I'll be setting up a comment zone there. Should you forget and comment here, I'll move your comment over and erase it here.

You can also write about it on your blog or at anywhere that might be interested. I'll trust your discretion not to give away the fabulous ending (or anything else fabulous you bump into along the way).

I want to thank all of you for your interest in This World We Live In and for your patience. I am extremely grateful for both.

Okay. If I can get Scooter away from his book, we'll start on the next step of this process. Bolivian Hat, here we come!

I usually check your blog everyday to see if the ARCs came in, but today I didn't have to because I got the message in your email instead!!

Thank you sooo much!! I'm so beyond excited to read it! I didn't think I'd have any chance out of those 100+ names in the hat.

I'm thrilled to not have to wait until well into 2010 to read this book. Will you sign the ARC's?

Now that Scooter is reading, I see a non-fiction book in your future on teaching felines to read.

Yeah congratulations to all you one-in-sixers. I keep telling myself I'd have felt pretty guilty if I'd won, because I came in after the original deadline, making hay out of the fact that this vast box of ARCs had yet to arrive. Not that I really mind feeling guilty all that much, but the high road does keep my mind off what I;m actually feeling, which is jealous.

Have they already been chosen ? If so, I guess I didn't win. No biggie, I can't wait 'till April to read it :]. I'm glad they finally arrived though lol.

The back cover of the Tanzania cats book is absolutely gorgeous!

Hopefully Scooter won't eat the contents of the Bolivian hat ;-)

Hello to everybody-

I sent off the first batch of ARCs today, over 20 of them. I'm happy to report there was no one on line behind me, so I didn't hold anyone up.

I'll make another trip to the post office tomorrow.

I'm keeping everyone's Bolivian hat slips in case I have any more ARCs to send off. The hat has returned to its rightful spot on the bathroom wall, but the slips are carefully hidden away (you never know what Scooter is going to be interested in, especially now that he knows how to read!).

Man, I didn't get an ARC, oh well, when I get a copy, I'll have one that doesn't say "Advanced Reader Copy Not For Sale" :)

Okay, what is the next best thing to getting an ARC??? Your best friend getting one! Yes, I screamed extra loudly this morning when she read aloud her email in the school library. Yes, staff came running and yes they thought we were crazy to be screaming about a book!!!! If she had read her email yesterday, I would not have been so bummed out last night!!!! Even better, she is going to let me read it first!!

Hello one and all-

I've mailed out most of the ARCs (I'm still waiting for a handful of people to email me their names/addresses). My guess is a few of you will get the ARCs on Saturday, the rest during the week, and the international ones probably the week after that.

It wouldn't have occurred to me to sign the ARCs, but someone had asked, so I did. Well, I didn't sign the one I sent to my brother, but the other ones all got my signature in red ink on the title page.

I hope those of you who get to read it will like it. And I'm still hoping to get a few more ARCs to send off.

Have you mailed out all the ARC's yet?

Hi Anonymous-

That's a good question, and I'm not certain of the answer.

I asked Harcourt to send a few out to certain bloggers and librarians, and I don't know if they all got their copies.

At some point, if I don't hear directly, I'll ask them. I'm holding copies just in case they didn't get one.

I also need to go through the list of people whose names I pulled out of the Bolivian hat and see if I heard from all of them.

By the end of this week, I should know if I have any more I can mail out.
