My Writing Career Is Over

Charlotte The Kitten has taken over the keyboard.

My concern is she's writing her memoirs (or posting spoiler information about B3).
We found each other at the Middletown Humane Society Saturday afternoon, and I promptly brought her home (well, after filling out all the necessary paperwork).
vaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (Charlotte just wrote that).

Charlotte's interests include purring, cat food, sitting on my lap, and biting my right thumb (which may also shorten my writing career). She's seven or eight weeks old, and is a summa cum laude graduate of Adorable Kitten School (although she took most of her course work on line).

She bears a resemblance to Marvin The Martian from the Bugs Bunny cartoons, and Marsha was one of the many names I rejected before settling on Charlotte. Other names included:

Caper (short for Catherine Parr, the last and best of Henry VIII's wives)

Linzie (Phil Linz was one of my favorite New York Yankees, but I was concerned people would think her name was Lindsay, which would have been okay, since John Lindsay was one of my favorite New York City mayors, but it wasn't going to be worth the aggravation spelling it out all the time)

Ruffles (the white hair on her neck looks like an Elizabethan ruff)

Luna (my friend Pam's clever suggestion)

Daphne (because I like Daffy Duck)

Lawki (in honor of Life As We Knew It, in case you couldn't guess)

Twili (in honor of This World We Live In)

Jane (my friend Geri suggested that one, but I'd already decided on Charlotte, which is pretty funny, since my late cat Emily was named for Emily Bronte, whose middle name was Jane)

I also researched names of moon goddesses, but they were too complicated. Actually, I'd been hoping Daphne was a moon goddess, but she was nothing more than a nymph. No insult intended to any nymphs who might be reading this.

Charlotte and I are in obviously in those first magical infatuated moments, and I'm sure I'll come to my senses eventually (or when she starts rewriting B3 even while I'm working on it). Meantime, I'm putting off starting B3 (originally scheduled for Monday) until Wednesday, but that's because I now have a couple of things planned to do with and for my mother, Monday and Tuesday.

Besides, who wants to end the world when they have a kitten on their lap!

ETA to add a couple of pictures of Charlotte on the printer next to the computer screen showing the blog entry about herself.
Also, when I was talking to my incredibly tolerant friend Christy, I remembered some more names I'd considered:
Mrs. Pynchon (Lou Grant's boss and a great name for a cat, but not a kitten)
Miss Georgina (from Upstairs Downstairs, and a little too much of a mouthful)
Fleur (from The Forstye Saga, and definitely under consideration for about ten minutes)
Miss Lonelyhearts (a fabulous name for a cat, if you're feeling depressed)

She's adorable! Congratulations and don't worry too much about writing. Kittens on cats (and keyboards) must come first. And I just finished re-reading Jane Eyre, so while it matters not one whit, I approve of Charlotte for a name.

Oops. That should have read "kittens on *laps*"

Congratulations on finding Charlotte! She is truly adorable. Now if only a similar happy ending oould be contrived for Miranda. . . I can't help it! I'm a cat lover!

Hi Wendy and Anonymous Santa Fe-

Thank you for your comments (and for the image of kittens on cats).

Because I am so besotted, I just added a couple more pictures of Charlotte reclining on the printer, next to the blog entry about her.

The printer was her idea; moving the screen over to the blog was my clever concept.

A kitten, a blog, and a digital camera. Life is great!

You know me. I'm no sucker for kittens. But Charlotte is one charming ball o'fur.

Quite the best name you could have chosen for her, you could have opted for 'Margaret' - Mrs. P's first name, but 'Margaret' is far too serious for a kitty like this one!

Very adorable! I'm so happy for you :)

Awwww.

Looks like she could be a sibling of the kitty we got a few months back. Only six months later, said kitty is now huge--hard to remember she was a cute little handful not so long ago ... (she is still cute, though)

Congratulations on your beautiful new baby kitty!!! And, perhaps I missed it, but I don't think you explained where Charlotte came from... After hearing about the sources of all the names that didn't make the cut, inquiring minds would like to know!

Hi Anonymous W. Slezak, Becky, Janni and Librarina-

Charlotte the kitten is currently sitting on my lap. She adores the entire computer experience, sleeping on the printer (she tried to climb into the page feeder earlier today), dancing on the keyboard, chasing the cursor. My writing career may not be over, but it's sure going to be challenging.

I don't think Charlotte the kitten is going to grow up to be Charlotte the great big cat. She has very dainty paws, and my vet always uses paws as the predictor.

It never occurred to me to name Charlotte Margaret, probably because just like Lou Grant, I always think of Mrs. Pynchon as Mrs. Pynchon. By the way, I rememebered another rejected name. The kitten looks a little bit like Al Jolson in blackface, and I thought about calling her Swanee.

Charlotte's name comes a bit from Charlotte Bronte and a bit from Charlotte Perkins Gilman (about whom I know nothing) and a bit from the Empress Carlotta and a bit from Charlot, the French nickname for Charlie Chaplin, and a bit from Charlotte Corday. But mostly I think Charlotte is a good name for a cat.

Absolutely 100% adorable! I don't know how you're going to be able to stop admiring her long enough to write (but please do -- I'm eager for the next book).

Good evening Paige Y.-

I don't think I'm going to have to write the third book. Charlotte the kitten is proving to be quite the writer.

I just sent an email to a friend, and Charlotte included the following message (this is a direct cut and paste quote):

fffffffffffffffc 6777777777gfg4e

I think that "c" at the end of all those "f"s is particularly masterful!

h hhh

Charlotte the kitten decided to leave her own message!

I just read through your possible other names and I must say I also loved Miss Georgina -- Upstairs, Downstairs is one of my favorite tv series ever -- I have all of it on DVD. I especially remember the scene with Georgina at the train station with all the wounded soldiers from the war.
